Goodreads synopsis:
In the witty, sizzling finale to award-winning author Nancy Herkness’s Wager of Hearts series, a haunted writer conquers his demons with the help of a feisty muse and a passion that doesn’t play by the book.

Gavin Miller, the billionaire author of a bestselling thriller series, struggles with a grim secret: he hasn’t written a word in more than a year.

Writer’s block is killing his spirit and jeopardizing his contracts with his publisher and his Hollywood producers. Prodded by his agent, Gavin reluctantly agrees to see Allie Nichols, a sassy physical therapist tasked with treating the novelist’s severe neck and shoulder pain—and maybe his writer’s block, too.

The tempestuous Gavin and no-nonsense Allie soon find themselves entangled in a steamy affair that sparks Gavin’s creativity again. But their manipulative ex-lovers and Gavin’s lingering childhood scars threaten their happily ever after. Can Gavin and Allie find their way to love when the stakes are high and the obstacles are overwhelming?

4.5 Stars

This is the third book 3 in the Wager of Hearts series by Nancy Herkness.

I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect with this one. In the previous books I didn’t get the impression Gavin was particularly good looking so I saw him in my minds eye as a bit of a dunderhead and fool. I am glad that Herkness gave me a much better idea of who Gavin was in this book.

Basic premise: Three men walk into an exclusive bar (a CEO, an Athlete and an Author) for billionaires and make a wager on love when the have given up on the concept. This book features Gavin Miller, an author of a James Bond-like character that has had much success in print and in movies. Now he is having a major case of writer’s block and it is really hitting his self esteem below the belt.

The first book in this series really grabs you. The second book keeps you invested and the third book makes you wish there were more books to follow in the series.

Even though I had no idea where this plot would go, I think it was the most interesting to me due to the writing aspect and the pressures Gavin put on himself. I can totally relate. Plus, my sister is a physical therapist and so I had an idea where Alile was coming from too.

I love how the author really gets us invested in the characters right from the get go. I know writers could learn a lot from how she plots and makes us care about her book people. I have already purchased her series with the horse theme, plus various others. Look forward to them all. This series was just wonderful!

If you love a good contemporary romance with a bit of suspense, definitely check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.
