This is the seventh book in the Peridale Cafe mystery series by Agatha Frost.
Nothing is ever what it seems in Peridale. When a gardening magazine comes to town to judge the best garden to put into the pages of their magazine, all the gardeners go crazy trying to make the grade. Behind the scenes, someone is sabotaging competitor’s gardens. Julia’s reporter friend Johnny uncovers a plot to kill off some of the original members of the Green Fingers club by causing what looks like accidents but are instead murder!
The author was able to pack a lot of story into fewer pages than her last book. That always amazes me. I liked getting to know Johnny. Having him by her side made it a lot easier to investigate. Whenever DI Brown is with her, she has to go by the book and that doesn’t always work out well for Julia.
This was another mystery that I needed Julia to show me whodunit. I had no clue. The only thing that would have made this better for me was if Julia had won that contest after she confessed someone else had fixed up her flower boxes. LOL!
Jessie is becoming a better and better cook as the books fly by. In no time she may have her own franchise of Julia’s cafe. Great mix of everyday life paired with the whodunit mystery.
