Fair Game is book eight in the Zoe Chambers Mysteries. I have previously read books 2 (LOST LEGACY) and 3 (BURNED BRIDGES). A lot of stuff has transpired since I last ventured into this world. Needless to say, I had a bit of a struggle getting adapted back into the setting and remembering who was who and what was what. I was about halfway in before I felt like I had my footing again.
The mystery is very intricate since there is more than one victim and lots going on including someone ripping off the fair for its cash box. This story really did need the expertise of Zoe, Pete and Wayne to follow all the threads to a victorious conclusion.
I have to admit I had no clue who the culprit could be and until the successful retrieval of one victim’s phone, I don’t think any of them (the three searching for information) had a clue either.
This book really keeps you on your toes and checking your score card. This is not a simple two victims one culprit story. I felt sad but then again satisfied that justice had been found even though victim two was such a butthead.
You kind of know what is coming from the beginning since Pete is fingering this velvet box he has locked in his desk. But the ending is so sweet and I was glad to see it all fall into place for Zoe and Pete. I kinda wanted to slap Zoe upside of the head and scream, “answer the man!” I look forward to future books to see where it all goes from here. Great things are ahead, I think.
