4.5 stars This is the third book in the Tea and Tarot mystery series by Kirsten Weiss. By now we all know that Abigail’s mother and father abandoned her at the airport and called her grandparents to come and get her. They flew away to a different country without looking back and now Abby’s mother is back and wanting back into her daughter’s life twenty years later. No matter how much new age babble comes out of her mother’s mouth, I cannot believe she doesn’t even acknowledge what she had done to Abigail in the past. Abandonment leaves mental scars and all her mother wants is more free tarot readings, free food and palm reading. I know there are supposed to be those characters you love to hate, but I don’t know if she would ever fit that bill for me. Even at times, I don’t even like Hyperion when he starts getting into his spiritual mumbo jumbo. Sometimes the characters you think should be more chill and wise, they are just rude and self-involved. Not all new age spiritual people are like that. I read tarot. I go to church and I know that just like in any other area, there are people like this surrounding us. Sorry, about that, getting off my soap box. This story was really interesting and I was surprised when even Brik, our Viking God look alike was caught up as a suspect in the murder. Archer who is a friend of Abby’s grandfather, asks them to look into his next door neighbor who is having all these parties and causing havoc in the neighborhood. (Abby knows the feeling since Brik has been doing this to her since book one.) When this neighbor ends up dead, there are no end of people to question. The police want her to stay out of it, but Abby is like a dog with a bone. She just can’t let go. I really like the concept of this book. But sometimes I think almost all the people surrounding Abby are almost like the same character but in different bodies… at least mentally. I know it is sometimes hard to find nice people other than the protagonist in cozy land, but still, I need more nice people who don’t do things to people just because they are so self involved to notice what they are leaving in their wake. |
If you like cozy mysteries, definitely check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.
