This is the first book in the Cafe Cinema mystery series by Vickie Fee.
Halley inherits a movie theatre and a whole gaggle of new friends (and enemies) from her great uncle, Leon. She decides to recreate the palace theatre into Coffee/Wine Bar where you could watch all your favorite shows from yesteryear. The first movie to be shown is My Fair Lady. And when a patron is found in the back of the theatre dead, all signs point to Halley. She has to go to all means necessary to prove herself innocent and secure her place in her new town’s economy.
I loved all the names of the different shops in town. My favorite was the Muffin Man. Halley asked many of the local businesses to let her sell their tasty treats or wine selections which I thought was quite clever. It not only allowed us to see the city beyond the movie theatre but also allowed us to meet so many of the quirky and interesting townfolk.
I liked how homey this book felt as I read along with the mystery. The atmosphere is what pulls you in and makes you love this new setting and new characters. I think this will be a true winner for Fee who also writes the Liv and Diin Dixie mystery series.
This is so much fun that I am sure you will want to read the next book as soon as it comes out. I hope that is soon since I am snared by this new series hook, line and movie trailer.
If you love a good cozy mystery, you have to check this one out. You won’t be disappointed. There is another book also by Henery Press that would be a great sister book series to this one. It is called MURDER IN THE BALCONY by Margaret Dumas. Definitely check that one out if you loved this book. It is also set in a theatre and has a spunky ghost from the past helping solve the cases.
