The Body Reader (Detective Jude Fontaine Mysteries #1) by Anne Frasier

The Body Reader

Paperback, 302 pages
Published June 21st 2016 by Thomas & Mercer

Goodreads synopsis:
For three years, Detective Jude Fontaine was kept from the outside world. Held in an underground cell, her only contact was with her sadistic captor, and reading his face was her entire existence. Learning his every line, every movement, and every flicker of thought is what kept her alive.

After her experience with isolation and torture, she is left with a fierce desire for justice—and a heightened ability to interpret the body language of both the living and the dead. Despite colleagues’ doubts about her mental state, she resumes her role at Homicide. Her new partner, Detective Uriah Ashby, doesn’t trust her sanity, and he has a story of his own he’d rather keep hidden. But a killer is on the loose, murdering young women, so the detectives have no choice: they must work together to catch the madman before he strikes again. And no one knows madmen like Jude Fontaine.

5 Stars

This is the first book I have read from this author and I was not disappointed. It was a compelling mystery and a master class in characterization of what it is like to go through terror and come out on the other side with some semblance of a normal life.

Jude’s three-year terror fest made her an expert on all the subtle micro-expressions of people. She uses this new found ability to get her through life after misery.

I don’t want to give too much away but you need to read this. It is stellar and stunning. I was in awe all the way through. Her writing is so well done you slip through the story without a stumble. You get all the feels and go through one tragedy after another with Jude and Uriah and pray for them to get through it all safely. These characters read real, authentic. Just a wonderful piece of work.

My highest recommendation.
