4.5 Stars

This is the twelfth book in the Forged of Steele series by Brenda Jackson for Harlequin Desire books.

In some ways I had a hard time believing how naive Sloan was. Her father had run her life, given her an allowance and allowed her to run free. But when she didn’t play by his rules, he completely cut her off financially. She buys a classic Camaro for $300 and when Mercury Steele sees his stolen car on the road, he follows her and wants her arrested. But then he meets this mysterious beauty, hears her story and goes against his better judgement and sends her to his mom for assistance.

I like how the entire Steele family was brought into this at one point to show Sloan how a normal family lived. This story was a really, really slow burn. In fact, I wasn’t sure if these two would drop their guards long enough to fall in love at all. Be prepared for a suspense bonanza here. It made the ending all the more sweet.

The whole situation is definitely a bit hard to believe but the author really pulls a great rabbit out of the hat and makes this a winner of a book. I look forward to picking up other books in this series.

Harlequin books may have a formula to them, but dang! That formula sure works for me!

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.
