Back Stabbers
Kindle Edition, 253 pages

Goodreads synopsis:
All Ellison Russell wanted was an update on her stock portfolio. Instead, she found her broker dead.
With an unexpected out-of-town guest at her house, Ellison is too busy for a murder investigation. Only this time, Detective Anarchy Jones wants her help, and she can’t deny the handsome detective. Can Mr. Coffee supply her with enough caffeine to keep her brain sharp and everyone else happy?
Juggling bodies (one, two, three, four), two-faced friends, her social calendar, and a cat (yes, a cat) is taxing but Mother might be the biggest challenge of all.
With a killer drawing closer, can Ellison put together the pieces or will she be the one getting stabbed in the back?

This is the eighth book in the Country Club Murders series by Julie Mulhern.
I have to admit that this is my favorite series right now and Anarchy Jones is my favorite character. Guilty pleasure all the way. It is set in a time when there is no internet and people have to leave phone messages by actually talking to someone or they have to call back when no one answers. Supposedly, it was a simpler time. But you wouldn’t know it based on this series. Since I have been introduced to Ellison Russell in 2015, there has been a murder spree in Kansas City to rival none other. And Anarchy Jones has been one mega busy detective.
This book starts with a literal bang as Ellison is going to her broker and when walking in to wait in his locked office finds him dead in his chair with his pants around his ankles. Dead body number one. There are a number of bodies that crop up in this book so you may want to take notes. Then while all this is going down another of the broker’s in the office named Buzz suffers a heart attack. The ambulance and the police arrive at the same time. Talk about being overwhelmed by the melee of people. It was intense.
In the midst of all this chaos, Ellison’s daddy asks her to let her step-sister stay at her house. The step-sister she had only recently learned about and the sister that her mother doesn’t know is coming. Cue the apocalypse when the truth comes out. Her sister, Karma, who is the daughter of her father from before he married her mother, looks strangely like her other sister, Marjorie. And she is mistaken for her more than once. But that is not the only unusual thing. Karma knows Anarchy! They seem close. And Ellison is green with envy.
This was a great book and I was in fear that things may never be the same between her and Anarchy and I wasn’t sure how I could handle that. I was indeed distressed to the max!
Definitely read this cozy mystery series and fall in love with Anarchy Jones and Ellison Russell. You won’t regret a minute of it.
